i want to emphasise to some people that im a teacher and i need the respect as one.
now in this society most of the younger generation people are bilingual, and that includes me. from young, im brought up in a chinese-speaking family. so under the influence, it's kind of studying for the sake of studying, whichever subject it is. i believe most kids are not sure wht and why they are studying for. for chinese, i started to like the subject only in sec sch days, and that was NOT due to my teacher's influence.
so i work hard at the subject to prove to that teacher. now as an adult and a teacher, i don't wish to teach u all to become what's like me before. so i had always try my best to make in interesting for my lessons, when it come to Q&A sessions. BUT when it comes to written work, so much discipline, and at the same time creativity for compo, is needed to complete the work.
for me, i would think that paper 2 is always the easier of the 2 to score well. as high as 90+ pts as some of u all can get. so i had to drill u all in using the techniques that i had learnt and used before.
for paper 1, it's based on your knowledge and language grammar and vocab to make it work. reading more CHINESE storybooks or comics or even novels at your age will help. peer appraisal in their essays will help in some way too. but all these come with your own willingness to READ. i don't wish to force people to do it when U yourself do not have the determination, confidence, to do well in it.
appropriate criticism is needed in all walks of life, and during your whole lifespan, there are bound to be endless criticisms about your life etc.
i do not like to give extreme or excessive criticism. my choice of words in school are to spur u all to work harder for your future. in future when u step into society, u will face much harsher criticism in your work.
i did mention about the growing China market. by the time u all start to work, china could be the no.1 country in the world. if u choose to heck care about it, im totally fine with it.
if we look at Chinese language in another way, it has more than 5000 years of history which no other country would be able to compare. and as a chinese, if we dont grasp well of the subject, won't we Chinese be laughing-stock in front of foreigners?
not to mention about ABLE TO READ everyday news(in Chinese), there are so many people who cannot pass 'O' level Chinese, and now there are pri school students who are of Chinese-ethnic, dropping the subject!!!
im good at chinese, but that doesn't mean i like the subject. i i like other subjects too, like maths. BUT that also doesn't mean i HATE chinese.
i like chinese history, but hate chinese literature. i had even failed the module when i was in Uni. if i didn't pass that, i would not be able to become a teacher. so i had to grind my teeth and study hard for it. so i managed to just pass it.
to compare the level of difficulty of it with Pri sch Chinese Language, it will be like flying to the sky without wings, to climbing a mountain. but still i managed to do it. now i had more knowledge in Chinese literature that i dont really hate it anymore.
it's YOUR PSLE year and u if think u can have much fun as in last year, think twice again.
those who are with me, get ready to step on the accelerator. those who feel u cannot take it, wish to give up at this 1st hurdle of your life, i only need to ask, do u want to move on?
